Hello all, checking in from montreal area. Self employed equipment tech, so I don’t do cars but all the electronic controls are used extensively on diesel and hydraulics. All of Paul’s diagnostic methodology applies to mobile equipment and his teaching skills are top-notch. I will definitely subscribe to premium as soon as my paypal is set up!

Thanks! Actually I don’t know why the system didn’t accept my typical username, so I took a step back and gave it a bit of thought for a change.
This also got me to thinking why am I watching videos of troubleshooting different problems on different cars which will never come my way.
I work on equipment with very different systems, ecm’s may control hydraulics or engines but the range of controls goes from direct mechanical operation to fully digital proportional controls and mechanical injection pumps.

It’s pointless to use automotive scopes or tools as nothing really applies, even if it did it would be very different from one piece of equipment to the next, and production volume is too low for aftermarket or even the manufacturers to invest in dedicated diagnostic tools . So I bought a second hand dso scope to be able to measure whatever values apply and figure out the schematics and mindset of the engineers who also have different approaches, just based on the regional culture.

Paul’s teaching skills keep me engaged enough to learn the logic of electronic troubleshooting techniques. From there the actual problems are very similar, i.e. corrosion and damaged wires, it’s very seldom the hard parts.

Cheers

The material Paul teaches can be applied to many walks of life. The CAT I run at the junk yard has a computer, an electronic transmission, a charging and starting circuit, etc.

So you might not care a whole lot about fuel trim working on equipment, or or how to set up a custom pid list on a Verus, but volt drop testing, relay troubleshooting and scematic reading are skills that will help you no matter what you work on.
