hi all! have a question was created by M0SSMEN1
hi everyone! i am technically an ASE master tech and been a lubetech/technician for the past 3 years i think but i still kinda feel like i just graduated from an auto school with a glorified ASE work resume. i work at a local toyota dealership and work on the used cars that come in and im glad to have the ASE certification, definately learned a lot learning them and getting them, i have to give a huge shout out to Paul for his book and all the material out there, it has increased my knowledge by leaps and bounds, i have been looking for an edge to get my L1 test(hopefully soon after the L3) so i can hit the MDT(Master Diagnostic Technician) level at the dealership,i have to admit i really was unsure when i read reviews about the book from people who were master ase and they gave so much praise but i am glad i took the leap, i have heard one master tech at another dealership that he would go to classes all the time when they were just put out even if it was basics for electrical or brakes and he still learned or remembered something he forgot, i have been going through the course(im on section 22 at this point) and i know i need to go through the course again to really understand everything but i just wanted to give a huge shoutout to Paul for all the material and explaining the diagnostic approach in the videos so you can tag along and understand everything and see application of the classroom material, i am super excited for the future and all it holds

i was curious with the new L3 test out and with the L1, i was wondering if people found it difficult for either test or if it wasnt really that bad and i was curious if anyone found any material that really helped, especially with the L3 -Thanks!

Hi Mossmen1, welcome to the forum!
I haven't taken an L series exam yet myself, but I'm sure other members will be glad to share their experiences. :)

I haven't taken the L3 yet, but I'm very interested in doing so. I do have L1 and L2.

Completely honestly, if you understand Paul's material, you'll smoke the L1. B) Before taking it, I'd built it up in my mind to be this super difficult monster test. Then I got there, and was very surprised how easy it was. I was almost disappointed.

I say go for it. Being ASE Master means you're familiar with the testing scheme, so the only hurdle is the subject matter, and Paul's book is the best training I know for that.

That's where the nervousness came in for me! I didn't want to feel like I threw away more than half my weekly grocery budget to fail a voluntary test.

But, like Tyler said, once I got in there and did it, they were much easier than I built them up to be in my head. Like I said, I don't have any L certs, but I bet they follow suit.

Let us know how you do on the L3!

No problem! If it helps, you can also study the Composite Vehicle beforehand (which has been recently updated). I remember that about half of the questions are based on the Composite Vehicle, so there's some value in being familiar with it.

There's also been a couple other threads around here discussing ASE testing:
