I hate working on cars. What I hate even more is being charged $1,000 for unneeded repairs on the part swapper dart board. I fix other machines, but have only a simple scan tool.
VEHICLES ordered by year:
1964 GM PD 4106. 8V71 non-turbo (supercharged 2-stroke) 4 on floor. All-aluminum motor coach sold new as charter in California. Looks new in compartments, converted above. 12k Diesel Generator. They don't make them like they used to.
1966 Ford Econoline 240 6cyl 3 on tree. Rebuilt Engine, trans, clutch, brakes, cooling, engine compartment electrical. Paid a 'professional' painter $5k to repaint. Ruined it. I have to take it back down to bare metal and repaint. Turns out he was having a drug problem while fixing my van. Forgot to put hardener in paint sometimes. 6 months. Paint still sticky.
1979 Ford F100 300 Cyl 3 on tree. Neighbor asked me to tow to the junkyard. It was rust-free. Tires dry rotted off. Jacked it up, found a good set of tires and pulled it home. Rebuilt carb, blew out gas lines. New tank, fresh gas, oil change, and NOS shifter bucket in the column. Brake cylinders, lube, and ITS A DRIVER. I paid $$350 and guy offered $6,600 so I just sold it.
2005 Chev Express 6.0 Auto. 1TON 300k miles - It's the workhorse. Best $1,300 I ever spent. Smoked like a locomotive until I changed the valve cover and oil pan gaskets. Due to time constraints have taken it to local mechanics who have part swapped me for almost $4,000 and fixed almost nothing. Replaced every steering component before they realized the NEW power booster that they started with was bad. Has intermittent start issues. No start first crank unless cold. If cold starts first crank, otherwise 2nd crank.
2006 Honda Accord 4 cyl auto. 200k Radio works about 1 day a year. Slight rear main seal leak. My wife wants a new car. I'm like. . Why? She drives it about 1,500 miles a month. I bought it just before COVID before prices skyrocketed. Clear coat is falling off the hood which bothers her. I showed her how to carefully sand the clear coat off and bought her four cans of 4k clear.
