Hi all, I am one of those old guys who gets into automotive systems mostly as a hobby, and mostly my own equipment. This information looks like it will be great for moving my projects through. I'm looking for design info on a project I'm doing now. Here it is. I'm installing a 99 Ford contour 2.0 PCM and the necessary sensors, injectors, and ignition system on a ea71 Subaru. There will be some machine work necessary which I can do. What I need to know is about the crank sensor and cam sensor pickups. The flywheel has the knoches machined into it. However that does not seem to match up with tdc. It looks like it is a pulse every 10 degrees or so with one long pulse. Does it matter to the computer where that wide notch is in relation to TDC? The cam sensor has a 5 lug output 4 of them are 90 degrees out and the 5th is on a 45 degree position. That one. I'm not so worried about as it will be movable. Can anyone point me to a good feed on crank sensor design. I know, total crazy, right? Thanks Steve

I’m sure you understand that the wide notch will be used to as crank position reference mark and the cam sensor then allows the control unit to calculate which stroke the engine is on. The notch in the flywheel doesn’t necessarily have to be at tdc, but the control unit needs to know where that notch is compared to tdc.
Are you using the original control unit that was with the engine?
