Hello, it’s been a while since I’ve been on these forums but I’ve started getting back into learning more diagnostics. I recently had a vehicle with an ABS concern. It had two wheel speed sensor faults.
The type of sensor they use are Magneto Resistive. So I watched the videos Danner has on the topic and I understand how to test circuit integrity on both wires signal and battery feed, but my question is on vehicles where it sees an ABS fault and it shuts the 12v feed off so there’s no way to check the feed wire other than open or short testing with a DVOM. Even trying to clear the codes they won’t clear. Is there another way to test the circuit integrity without doing open and short testing?
I have 15ft test leads I use sometimes to jump the circuit from the sensor that is coding to one that is not. For example, if there's a code for the left front, I'll unplug it and jump the harness to the right front sensor.
Much of the time, just cycling the key will be enough to get the abs module to momentarily power the sensor again until is recognizes the fault is present. You can usually catch this on the scope or using the Min/Max feature on your multimeter. Try it at the sensor and then again at the abs module.
