Electrical/Can Bus issue? was created by alan2112drums
My 2011 Chrysler Town & Country has push button start. The van rarely starts on one push of the button. Most often, it starts after multiple pushes and then immediately shuts down. So it turns over well, starts up and then dies after 2 or 3 seconds. If it shuts off and then push the button again (can be multiple pushes), it will turn over but not start. There is only one way to get it running; with foot OFF the brake, push the button until it gets to the "RUN" position (it can take 20-30 pushes to get from "OFF" to "ACCY" to "RUN") but eventually it always does. Once in the "RUN" position, I press the brake pedal, push the start button (usually once but sometimes more) and it starts!
On top of that annoying problem, a few times the navigation system has not started up or has shut down while driving. 2 or 3 times the rear camera stopped working while backing up.
I bought the van used in January 2020 with 134,000 KM (83,000 mi).
Chrysler said it must go in for paid diagnosis with no guarantee they'll find the problem. I've already addressed the known fuel pump relay switch failure by removing the TIPM and soldering in a new relay; didn't fix the problem (I preferred that $4 option rather than spending $1000 on the Chrysler external fuel pump relay repair). Others have reported similar intermittent start issues where the dealer replaced parts that didn't solve anything. Hoping to avoid that costly endeavor!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Alan

Without seeing what exactly you are missing when it is not starting (scan data and fault codes), there isn't going to be much the community can offer to help you with remotely. These are hard enough to do while your at the car, let alone over the internet. Do you have access to an enhanced scan tool? One that will give you more than just global obd2 info?

I will take it to my mechanic and ask him to do a scan with the truth teller!
Thanks for your advice.
