HID Testing Techniques was created by Gregwendling
Hello,
I work mostly on Euro vehicles at my shop, and I was looking for a better method to diagnose HID light problems without swapping components from the working side to the non working side. The reason is because most of the cars I see aren't to easy to acces the back of both headlights.
I know start up voltage can be 20-30 kv, and then once the ballast takes over the voltage drops quite a bit. I was wondering if a test light to ground at the bulb fixture would create an arc just like testing ignition wires to verify that the bulb was the culprit.
I'm just looking for a more scientific approach to diagnosing the system besides swapping parts.
Thanks

I am wondering if a DIS ignition probe would pick-up anything.
