I have a 2003 PT Cruiser GT Turbo, that I made the mistake of driving it when it was out of water, no where safe to stop. it overheated so bad it shut down the engine. This was over a year ago, so I haven't done much since I found the following. Symptoms are cranks slower than normal, likely due to burnt bearings, and won't start. Getting spark on plugs. Initial compression test was 75 psi. Thought ok, blown head gaskets. then I remembered how putting oil in the cylinder to seal up the rings can check for bad rings on the piston. After adding oil compression was 275 psi. As I am limited on funds, and being a PT Cruiser and all the typical issues with this model, I would like to try to rebuild it if it doesn't get too expensive. Weighing out the costs, I'm thinking it isn't worth putting a lot of money in it. I had only had it for about a year when this happened. The heater core was leaking also, but stop leak fixed it. to replace the core the entire dash assembly has to come out. I paid 3500 for it, spent a hundred in having a shop fix a transmission line issue, and just put new tires on it. (seems every time i buy tires, my cars die, lol). Any input is greatly appreciated.

side note, taking the engine out the bottom will be quite the challenge as all work will be preformed in the driveway

It's going to be a tough call, seems to me you have cooked it, who knows what's happened, if it was mine price up parts to rebuild and if its in your budget then go ahead take it out , strip and inspect it, if it's way to gone then a replacement my be a cheaper solution. Good luck

Before you go any further are you sure you haven't a battery issue? A battery that has been in a car but out of use for a year is likely to be toast.
Also a 275 psi compression test result makes not sense how much oil did you put down the plug holes?

I was thinking that the battery would of been changed in advance.

Yeah, the 275 number is quite high... Jumped timing can cause abnormally high compression, but not THAT high.

Surely that's from oil in the cylinder still.
If you drove it until it stopped itself I'd suggest that engine is dead. Whether on not to mother is up to you.
