Hey folks new here and I got one that's driving me up the wall.
2013 Ford fusion 1.6 EcoBoost direct injection motor.
-Crank no start
-Spark is good
-Cam crank sync is good
-Definitely getting fuel
-Compression is 180 on all
Basically the engine turns over but seems like it's hydro locking on fuel cranks for a second then locks up cranks for a second then locks up
Does this for about 10 seconds then loses high pressure and cranks normal (still no start)
If you unplug the fuel injectors it cranks normally.
High pressure fuel desires 1500 PSI.
When you start cranking it will build 1500 quickly and then start dropping off and never rebuild pressure.
And it DOES hold high pressure fuel if you let it build and then sit.
Tried replacing high pressure fuel pump, fuel control valve, rail pressure sensor, and injectors
Here are some captures of the injectors

Also just a quick backstory. this customer was told by another shop that the previous motor lost time and Bent valves so the customer provided us a used motor to install which we checked compression on and installed new timing components.
It's possible this was the problem all along and was misdiagnosed by the other shop but the customer didn't want us to diagnose it and it was already partially disassembled.

Is this the belt driven engine with the keyless sprocket?
Was the balancer installed with the correct alignment tools and a new washer?
If you are watching the scan tool pid for cam crank sync, it is not accurate during cranking. I have seen this exact engine so far out of time that it will not fire and the cam crank sync pod displayed YES the entire time.
Does the engine still bind with spark disabled?

Yes keyless belt driven
All alignment tools were used during install
Washers were not replaced just bolt

It really sounds to me like the balancer is not installed correctly causing the coils to fire out of time. The cam timing could be an issue, but it sounds more like a spark timing problem if it's kicking back against the starter. Maybe someone went to far and pulled the valve cover to do the timing? Then I guess the coil connectors could be swapped around?
