Long story short, I THINK engine is from 85 Camaro, and it is in a 77 MGB and it is 700R4 also.  The ECU is under dash,and has no port to scan. Anyhow runs/starts fine, fuel pressure 37# engine off and dips to 35ish and goes back up to 40's revved up. Backfires under light load after 5-10 minutes driving, and eventually just dies. Starts up within a minute or so and then proceeds to start doing it again. 
   My thoughts were fuel pressure but that seems to test good. But it has a cat on it, with O2 sensor mounted before with none after.  I  guess i can check if cat is plugged with a laser temp gauge?
 And I did not build this rig, I got it from estate and builder cannot answer any questions.
