new walker brand, catalytic converter was created by frankiedon
Hi A 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Van 5.2L Vin Y 318 : With the old OE cat. converter, 3 monitors on the scan tool were flashing, namely catalysts, evap and o2 sens. and the orange light is on . I have now replaced the cat. with a WALKER brand-name catalytic converter but the same monitors are flashing. Does the PCM have to go through a relearn cycle or do I still have a problem, is the important question here, I suppose. Any help is appreciated. Thank you, Frank.

Can you post the error codes?
Freeze frame data for the O2 sensor codes?
Freeze frame data for the O2 sensor codes?

Hi cj1 There were never any trouble codes pertaining to the cat. efficiency only the readiness monitors were flashing and the downstream sensor indicated a bad cat. plus the vehicle being 18 years old I figured it was time to replace it. There are no trouble codes presently. For the last 7 yrs I always had an orange light ever since I bought my first code -reader. I am looking forward eagerly to see a green light on my scanner. Thanks for your reply, I hope I can get this sorted out. The fuel trim #s look good. Thanks, Frank

What scan tool are you using to check the monitors? It sounds like maybe the monitors just haven't set yet and it needs to be driven more.

Hi Tutti57. I have the Innova 31603 scan tool. Unfortunately , the road tax and insurance are lapsed for now so I can't give it a good drive -cycle. I had to replace the water pump and radiator as well early in the year so I took it off the road for financial reasons. I am also now replacing the right side exhaust manifold as I am sure it is leaking. The left one was replaced some years ago. Maybe I should replace the gaskets in that one too I suppose. Thanks for your response. It helps to hear what others have to say. I am working on getting it back on the road soon. Thanks,Frank .

That stinks. You'll have to drive it to lunch it through the cycle and hopefully all of the monitors will pass with no codes!

Thanks Tutti57 I thought that may be the case but I wanted to run it by some one with more experience. I'll see when I get it back on the road. Thanks. Frank
