I HAVE A 2005 GMC CANYON WITH A 2.8 ENGINE
IT STALL AFTER IT GET WARM AND ONLY AT IDLE IT RUNS GOOD WITH NO OTHER PROBLEM
IT HAS A NEW ECM/CAM PHAZER/T-BODY AND CUSTOMER SAY THE TIMING CHAIN HAS BIN REPLACE
I AM THE 4 SHOP TO LOOK AT IT AND HE IS A NEW CUSTOMER
I WOULD LIKE TO CHECK TO SEE IF IT IS OUT OF TIME BUT CANT FIND ANY WAVE FORMS FOR THIS TRUCK
SOME TIME I GET A P0300
I HAVE SCOPE ALL SENSOR AND CANT FINE ANY THING WRONG
I THING IT HAS A TIMING PROBLEM BUT I CANT VERIFY IT

why am I thinking egr it seems like I am hooked on egr and iat symptoms but can never diagnose them correctly maybe scope your thermal switch see if its opening when its supposed to and as far as timing goes I think you can do what we call a duel trace scope the cam and the crank for comparisons off of an ignition sync I am kind of a novice still some input from noah ben or graywave will help huaahhh good luck
P0017 is cam to crank timing correlation get a capture of the cam to crank waveform and I'll see if I or someone else on here can find a known good to compare to
Is it cutting instantly dead or stumbling first?
How easy is it to restart ? or will it only re-start after a cool down?
How long after a cold start is it cutting out ? is it in open or closed loop ?

How about your oil pressure? If it gets better above idle, and is ok at cold start (when it is in open loop and off-idle), I would check the simple things first. Oil pressure, level, condition, etc.
