overheating to death 2009 nissan versa 1.8 was created by mil.7.on.auto.diagnostics
good evening, a question about this nissan overheating,
I was told car overheated until it died on the road. cooled it down, the restarted and moved to a gas station where it did not restarted,
Car was towed to the car owner where it was checked.
car was checked and found water in the cylinders.
question
are those blocks made of aluminium?
if they are , is it worth it fixing the engine,

thank you in advance.

The whole engine is Aluminum, head and block.

If the car is in very good shape a used engine might be the way to go.

What’s Your Best Option?
  • Used Engine Swap: Usually the cheapest fix. ~$700–1200 for a used MR18DE long block, plus labor.
  • Rebuild: Only makes sense if:
    • You can DIY most of it
    • The block/head is confirmed not warped
  • Junk it: If the rest of the car is tired, rusted, or already falling apart, it might be time.

I agree with Paul P.
Rebuilding that engine may be a fools errand if it overheated as badly as you say.
I would put a used engine in it if the car is still worthy of repair.

Paul P. nailed it. If there's coolant in the cylinders, then there's very little worth saving, IMO.

Used engine is the answer. MR18's are widely available, sometimes for relatively low mileage.
