Hey fellas, new to this forum but glad to be apart of it. I have a 2009 Altima in my shop that my boss actually purchased, the car intermittently wont start and gives me a no com on the engine computer only, I went over the main ecu grounds in the engine bay, few main ones under the dash, and lastly found the pin out of the ECU on Mitchell and found my primary power had 12 v and the main grounds were strong when back probing the ecu pin right behind the connector. Going to double check backprobing the ecu tomorrow again with any help or pointers . Any other modules or things to check before replacing ecm, autel scan tool can communicate with every module, programmed a key and threw in new ipdm fuse box , Car starts intermittently randomly and when running the car will run smooth until shut off.

Any help is greatly appreciated, rep points for all replies!

I think you're on the right track with module replacement. I think the only question I'd have is if you have 5V out of the PCM during the no com/no start. Being a drive-by-wire system, it's likely to have more than one 5V regulator, so consult your wiring diagrams. If you have 5V, then it's probably module time. If you don't, it could still need a module, but I'd investigate further into a shorted sensor.

Hey thanks, indeed a junkyard ecm out of a 2012 started this car when programmed with autel scan tool; one more question- Now the car has a evap p0445 purge valve code, and at idle with small quick stabs of the throttle the car does infact want to turn off. Can this be an issue with the ecm being out of a 2012 and the car being an 09 with different map?

You might get a P0445 if the purge valve control wire was in a different location on the 2012 PCM, but I think that'd set a different code. BBB Industries doesn't go up to 2012 on Altima diagrams, so I can't check from here.

The throttle snap thing, I'm not sure. How are the trims at idle and 2500? Does the VVT respond properly during a power brake?

Hey guys, verified the purge valve on the intake is intact working, replaced the purge valve on the canister by the gas tank. Car still has p0445 code and bogs out and wants to die. Car previously had a no start issue, now its a drivability issue car runs great at idle, Tried to do the idle volume relearn and relearn throttle body but wasn't very successful.

How should the VVT scan data look? Car ran good cold, and after half hour of sitting idle it would die soon as throttle was touched. P0445 evap purge solenoid circuit short, and a power steering pressure sensor circuit in the ecm codes only. When using trouble shooter snap on tool one of my tps looked way off. going to smoke test and vacuum test the evap service port again to see. This car is really beating me up any help is greatly appreciated!

The VVT data on these is kinda limited compared to other makes, unfortunately. :( But usually, you'll see around a 40% command to the solenoid while cruising. The actual amount of advance will vary widely depending on what the ECM wants. What does the ECM want? They don't tell you. :silly:

With systems like these, you have to judge for yourself if the ECM is getting what it's asking for. For example, if the solenoid command is 45%, and the advance amount is steady, the ECM is probably happy. But, if you see the solenoid command climbing and climbing, and the advance doesn't respond accordingly, there's a problem. Regardless, the amount of advance should always come back to zero or one with the solenoid commanded off.

What are your TPS number at idle? I'll see if I can dig up some known good data for you to compare to.

This is from an '06 Frontier - definitely not the same model, but same engine. I have more known good captures from other Altimas at home, I'll post them later.
