Rover Freelander 1998 1,8 was created by Momo87
Hi! I had a Rover in an English Car 1998 1,8 l engine. The car didn't go trough the yearly check up in Sweden on the emission test. Before I got it it was at another garage they had been everywhere. One thing they had done was replacing the O2 sensor 1 it just had 1. There is a big problem whit parts to those cars outside of UK as Rover doesn't exist anymore so im unsure on the quality of the parts. I decide to start with checking if i have any trouble codes which I don't. I move on to the new sensor and I find out that my signal was stuck at 900 mv. I rightly then suspected a bad sensor ground and found 1,5 v on that wire and it was coming from the pcm. It didn't share any other sensor ground that O2 sensor, I tried to share the ECT ground which was good with my O2. The result was that I had 1.5V on that wire too. I then checked powers and ground to the PCM as good I could without a a correct diagram which was impossible to find to that car. Everything checked up and I called it a bad PCM. But the car still bothers me, why couldn't i share ground and did i miss anything?

Land-Rover still exist and a thriving, This is a very early Freelander it probably has the earlier model ECU You need to identify the engine code the earlier type 18K16 used a 4 wire planar sensor and the later 18K4F was a 4 wire Zirconia.
OEM Bosch part number on the earlier type was 0258006127 Rover part number: MHK100840
The change over was at very end the of the 1997 model year so if a universal sensor has been fitted it is more than possible that the wrong part is fitted
OEM Bosch part number on later type was 0258003229 Rover part number: MHK10006, MHK100720
I am not sure of all the changes to the Freelander but Rover and Land-Rover changed the ECU type from Mems 1.9 (or Mems 2.0) to Mems 3.0 and MEMS 3 has completely different pin out. The earlier type units were known to have grounding issues usually fixed by adding an extra ground wire direct to the chassis or battery,

Its not an universal sensor that they fitted.I have no trouble codes and even with the sensor unplugged I have 1,5V coming from the pcm to the connector. I honestly don't know exactly which year and model it is. We have a program when we put in the cars plate number we get all that information from our government in Sweden. Our government didn't even know what engine code it had and exactly which year model. So it made my life a bit hard, just reading codes was hard. Maybe I'm overthinking it and I didn't miss anything the car is in the junk yard know its worth around 500 hundred dollars in good condition here in Sweden so he didn't want to put more time on it.
