2014 sonata getting circuit high code for fuel level sensor I checked voltage at for the sensor expecting to see 5 volts but read 12 volts and I'm reluctant to jump to ground for circuit integrity testing is this unique to Hyundai ? any input is much appreciated.

looking at the 2.4L on identifix, yes 12 volts is supposed to be there.

resistance specs of fuel sender are here: static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2013/SB-10052842-7701.pdf

12v and ground for the sender comes from the cluster according to the cluster pin out.
oddly enough the 12v also connects to the PCM, why? who knows I would think the cluster would put fuel level on the can but whatever.

Re-reading my reply "12v is supposed to be there" could be misconstrued let me rephrase that.

Reading the tea leaves that are the possible trouble codes for this fuel level sensor, the cluster can't distinguish from a short to voltage and an open circuit and thus the safe circuit integrity check is a test light to pull this reference voltage down in case it is shorted to battery positive. I don't know why Hyundai chose to use that instead of 5v.

Service info says voltage less than .04V will set the circuit low input code. Identifix test steps continues on, "If the fuel gauge climbs toward full, replace the fuel level sensor. If the gauge didn't move, replace the instrument cluster."

Due to circuit fault description of circuit high, it suggests a bad or loose connection but it's more likely a worn spot on the level sensor itself. I would move the float up and down and monitor the voltage change on the scope for a drop out, or rather the voltage jumping high, indicating an open circuit within the fuel level sender assembly itself and not a connector issue.
