I've never had a car this new , 2014 Ford Flex , The newest I've ever had was 2002 and that was just when things were trying to get complicated but it was a gift and I accepted it.
So the Flex is a little "long" but eventually the rest catches up . lol . So one day I'm driving and the power steering quits working , in the middle of an intersection in the bat area, I got through it.
Went to O'Reilly's and had them check the battery and alternator bcuz I got a code and sure enuff it was the alternator. I went to find the alternator and would you think it's right where
alternators used to be on a car/truck? Oh no it's on the bottom buried in some location not even on a map.
So with all this computer junk they call "bells and whistles" I , for the first time, put it in a shop to get a new alternator put in . $800 later I  get it and the next day the windows quit. All of them.
But it's a month later , 300 miles max I'm out of town at my friends , a retired mech. and we're going thru the hell of just trying to reach the window fuse to check that etc. anyways the motors running and I look down at the belt and see the new alt. and I said to him " I don't like the way that looks" He looks and says " shit those pullys aren't even aligned . My belts all shredded bcuz
shit was all wonky. So my buddy says that shop should honor their work even if it's been a month this is obviously wrong. Cal them up and tell them what the deal is then tell them if I have to do it I'm going to be billing them" So I called told them my story and put them on the phone to each other. Anyways I drove it the 90 miles back home the way it was and got it to the shop monday morning. They called me later and said that it was damaged when they got it apparently but it went unnoticed by them they got a new one replaced it and tried to fix the window problem but could not and my best bet would be a dealership. and no, they didn't charge me.
Somewhere in there I discovered my windshield wipers had also quit . plus the rain sensers . The first time I dropped it off it was 2 days later I called them to see WTF? He started rambling off along with the $398 it was going to be $698 and possibly up to $1100 my head was swimming I said I'm picking it up. I didn't listen very well. But I brought it back in bcuz I'm thinking
it's just going to keep going down the list.
I've been thinking, don't laugh, because seriously, I look at it like a fusible link works . A fusible link stops the bad things before it reaches the place where it can do the damage, yeah?
But with all the computer BS it's different. But still , what if because of that faulty alternator the effects were that one by one the functions shut down to protect the rest of the car much like a fusible link works and now that things were proper again why can't they  shut down/reboot the cars computer for an hour , reset it all to factory default settings and see if the madness ends there. It has to be able to be done , yeah? It makes sense to me. I mean they joke about people who insist on thinking if something doesn't work That magically if you stick it in a closet for a month or so when you turn it back on it's going to work, then they laugh. But it does work bcuz I've done it.  Tell me how high I am for thinking this. But now the dealership knows that there is power to the fuse box , I could have told them that , but they now have to extensivly "pin " test it. Shouldn't their favcy dealership equipment be able to do that?

Oh better than that . part of the board is bad BUT they can't seem to locate a new one anywhere SO they are going to bypass that part , kinda like doing a hardwire, on the wipers , windows or visa versa. FOR $2600.00. Which puts me at almost buying it 2x's. I was prepared for 1 to 1500 . I'm still reeling. Then my quote for cats is 5600.+/-. Thats crazy.

I can tell you're frustrated, but no. Fancy dealer equipment doesn't just tell the tech whats wrong.
Is there a repair question in here, or are you just looking to vent? Because most of us are professional techs, and I can tell from your introductory post that you are what we would refer to as a problem customer. I'm not surprised you are getting huge bills. I would triple the price in hopes you would decline the repairs.

You're condescending attitude is insulting. You must get a lot of complaints . I'm sorry. I was just seeking out info that would explain things to me. I went to a wrecking yard and took the fuse box out to see what was under there to better understand. I am not a complainer. I have never had to take a car to a dealership because I learned and did things myself. Shame on you for thinking that me seeking out knowledge for a better understanding insults you so much. Next time instead of reading on maybe consider hitting next before you pipe up about triple charging me. I've always done my car repairs myself and a lot of my learning came from this forum here.
