2008 Chevy avalanche 5.3. Replaced 02 sensor. Gm says....Heated Oxygen Sensor Resistance Learn Reset Notice

Notice: When replacing the HO2S perform the following:

A code clear with a scan tool, regardless of whether or not a DTC is set
HO2S heater resistance learn reset with a scan tool, where available
Perform the above in order to reset the HO2S resistance learned value and avoid possible HO2S failure. Has anyone ever done this? Never seen this before on my snap on scan tool.

Hey autojoe! What year of software update do you have on your Snap On scanner? As I recall, the GM heater relearn came out around 15.something.

If it's not showing up in Functional Tests, then you might try a battery disconnect next. Give the PCM a chance to clear lean red adaptives, and start over. You may also need to clean the throttle at the same time, if it's coked up.

Thanks Tyler..... I heard if you clear codes even if no codes are stored before new 02 replacement or the new 02 heating element will burn up. My software version is 12.4. I am thinking of getting a new platform snap on. Thanks Joe

It's true that there's the potential to ruin the new O2. But, the good news is that the PCM is very likely shutting the heater driver off once the code sets, so you may not have ruined it yet!

12.4 definitely didn't have the function you need. :-( I'd try leaving the battery disconnected for about 30 minutes to do the reset.
