2004 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 L hood stuck closed
after replacing the throttle position sensor, (with your help, thanks!) I went back today to replace a plastic part that I inadvertently broke in the course of the TPS repair. The hood absolutely will not open. I pull the release in the driver compartment, and it does seem to operate, but the hood will not budge and I’ve pushed down and pulled up really hard on it to try to get it loose, but it seems to still be latched, despite pulling the release handle. I can look through the grill and see two bolts on the latch housing, I could remove those bolts, but then the question is then what do I do? Looking up from underneath the front of the Jeep for some way to trip the release with a prybar or something, there doesn’t seem to be anything that putting a prybar on wood enable release. So, once again I’m coming to you guys for ideas. Any suggestions? Thanks,
Taking those two bolts may not be a complete waste of time. It could afford you a a little more room to maneuver. Ideally, you will be able to grab the cable with a pry bar or hook or something and give it a goodly pull. Will probably need a new hood cable. Alternatively, you might be able to find the spot where the cable ends in the latch and pry on that bit with a screwdriver or something.
Be glad it's a Grand Cherokee and not a Cherokee of the same era. Those had 2 latches, one on the left and one on the right with a cable between.
