Hi, I have a 1996 f150 with a 5.8l and a e40d tranny. My symptoms are a interment missfire rough idle and stalling. Only dtc is p1351. I rebuilt the e40d myself and the engine is a crate motor from auto zone. I had the ignition issue before I put a fresh engine in it. I have done numerous things to this thing to no avail. I myself am a mechanic i own a tractor repair company I'd love for you to help me fix this truck!! I am very eager to get this thing fixed.

Every component in ignition has been replaced. I've been through ford's service manual and tested accordingly all resistance and voltages checks good. The eec had even been replaced. Need to start fresh I'd like some one to provide me with some diag procedures I'll gladly pay

P1351 has specifically to do with the Ignition Diagnostic Monitor circuit:

Service info isn't clear about what the IDM signal should be, specifically, but I'm guessing it's going to be a square wave signal based on ignition primary events. I'd start by checking voltage on the IDM circuit first with the key on engine off, then with the engine running.

For what it's worth, service info also mentions that it's possible to install the wrong Ignition Control Module and get this code. You'll know by the color of the module itself. Black is the correct module, grey is not.

My fiancé's dad recently bought a 1997 F250 HD. It never stalled but it had some running issues and the biggest one was bogging down and cutting out at fairly low rpms but would run fine at higher rpms. He replaced the distributor, ICM, coil, shift solenoids, and some other parts with no results. It ended up being the ECM. These later model Fords had issues with their ECM's.
