I have a 2010 Mini Cooper with the base N12 non-turbo engine that I wanted to replace the PCV vale. Turns out the PCV valve is built into the valve cover and yo9u either buy an aftermarket PVC kit, an aftermarket complete valve cover or an OEM valve cover. I opted for the OEM valve cover (BMW - $398!!), installed it and now I am getting a code (2789 Fuel Mixture Adaptation per time unit) error. I have ordered a new valve cover gasketr set and plan to start there, but would like to know if anyone has the BMW description of what "sets" this code 2789.
Hey RogerB! Unfortunately, BMW/MINI doesn't really provide good quality code set criteria in the same way that other makes do. They also like to keep a lot of their service and testing information in the scan tool under their test plans, and therefore don't get published in aftermarket service information sources.
There is a somewhat decent bit of info on 2789 in their test plan list. I snipped it and condensed it down to the useable stuff:
0x2789
Fuel mixture adaptation, idling, per time unit
P2187 System Too Lean at Idle (Bank 1)
Fuel System Idle Air mass < 15kg/h (26 kg/h with a/c on)
650 rpm < Engine speed < 900 rpm
Engine temperature >60 °C
approximately 320 sec.
Fault registered owing to defective: oxygen sensor (before catalytic converter), HFM, injector nozzle, leak in induction tract (crankcase ventilation, oil cap, dipstick, tank EVAP line) Leak in exhaust system (cylinder head exhaust side back t 2nd oxygen sensor), fuel pump, camshaft sensor, intake a temperature, poor-quality gasoline.
Because the action measures are quite extensive, they are only portrayed in the test module -> Rkatmax & Fraumin-> Rkatmin MIL On Diagnosis is active only with HFM systems
