2004 F150 No crank/No start.Hi. My name is Hector I'm a 61y/o almost retired industrial mechanic.have been working on cars since I was a kid. I’m also an electronic tech. so this is like a hobby to me. Now the repair story. this is a 2004 F150, 5.4L 4WD, super crew cab. it have 170k miles. It's stall while driving and since that it’s a no crank no start. The owner told me that they have tried 3 different PCM, and 2 cluster with no luck. The PCM have B1342 and B1601.so far I have tested powers and ground on the PCM, IC, BCMI just added a PicoScope to my hobby, the can bus signal is beautiful.also hocked the scope to the PATS TX/RX signal and a third channel to the UBP bus. and it seems to me like the data packets are in good shape. The owner tells me the when somebody installed the second PCM the truck started and runs for a few hours.all the 3 PCM have the same codes. I when further and powered the PCM at my electronic workbench hooked the scanner and got same two codes. What I think is the eeprom is corrupted and need a reflash. But how It get corrupted? could be a over voltage due to a failed alternator? that’s can explain how the second PCM died.
Hello Hector,
A couple of questions. 2004 is a split year, the first year of the new body style but a "heritage" body style was available that looked just like the previous generation.
Which is the one you are working on?
Also, the cluster is usually the PATs module, were the people that were swapping in ECMs and instrument clusters capable of programming them to the truck? I wouldn't be surprised to see it not like the PATs key anymore with a different cluster that hasn't been mated to the vehicle (this obviously applies to the engine computer as well).
