Hello all, need your help on diagnosingA P0705 code on a 2008 Mitsubishi outlander with CVT transmission.Vehicle brought to us with a new tcm and inhibitor switch.Live data doesn't show position for P and N , but it does show R and D. The reverse light stays on all the time . How ever vehicle will only start in p or N.  I have checked continuity from inhibitor switch to tcm they are all good.

Also he reverse light doesn't go off when the inhibitor switch is disconnected or the tcm is disconnected.

You should have power on the violet wire with the ignition on.
And power on the black and white wire in park.
Power on orange in reverse
Power on yellow and green in neutral
Power on green in drive
The violet will always have power regardless of position, but if any two of the others have power at the same time, this code will set.

Iam getting power on the orange wire no matter what gear is selected, hence the reverse light is always on .

Just to be clear, you have physically measured battery voltage on that wire while in gears other than reverse and are not just assuming there is power there because the reverse lights are on?

Excellent.
Then the orange wire is shorted to power or the switch is sending power through when it should not.
How about with the 7.5amp fuse referenced in the diagram removed?

If the fuse is removed the lightgoes off .so does the display on the combination meter for reverse gear . (Meter only shows R)

With the tcm and the gear selector switch disconnected, I would ohm each output against each other to be sure there are no shorts (crossed circuits) in the harness.
I'm leaving for work, you probably won't see another reply from me for a bit, but don't think I'm ignoring you.

Yessir, there she is!
Nice job. I have found that tool largely useless, this is the first time I've seen anyone actually find the problem with it!
Looks like she got hot, was it touching exhaust?

Not touching the exhaust, wires were covered with flexible plastic cover. No damages there very clean.
Wires found shorted from selector switch to a connecter in the engine bay , still have to tear it open to see how far in it has shorted
