Hey guys, customer came in today with his bmw e46 m3 2003.He said he was driving along when the engine light came on,he didn't notice any difference in power but wanted it checked out . The verus showed fault codes 178 and 179 cat1 and cat2.He needed the car so he said he would leave it in 2 weeks time so I can have a better look and fix it.I contacted the local dealership to see if there are any software updates available but they say no (Not sure about that!)has anybody came across these faults or any tips on locating the issue?
Aside from having the latest software, there's only a few other things to check before replacing the cats. Check for exhaust leaks, make sure the fuel trims aren't skewed, verify that the engine is burning coolant or oil, and that there's no misfire issues.
