Piston rings break in was created by Carstuff
How long would it take to break in new piston rings ?
is it normal to see small amount of oil on top of pistons after new rings were installed. New rings only have 4 miles on them

It is fairly normal for new rings especially in an old bore to pass some oil. When fitting new rings the surface texture of the bore needs to be roughened up to carry an oil film to keep the new piston rings lubricated until they are broken-in to match the "roundness" of the cylinder bore.
If the bore is't properly prepared using a "Glaze Buster" or carbide ball hone then the piston rings will either take longer to bed-in and in many cases fail to bed-in.

As long as the surface texture is rough enough they should bed-in okay, really just normal driving just keep the engine spinning freely no excessive loads at low rpm, no excessivly high rpm, don't hold wide open throttle for too long as it raises the piston temperture. Lifting off the throttle from wide open throttle helps get. oil up the bores bringing the piston temperature down.
