Jeep Techs Please Help!! was created by Rottiguy76
Good afternoon fellow techs!
I have a nightmare electrical problem with a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0L. The vehicle came to me with a parasitic drain issue. I have been pulling my hair out on this one. I have been looking at this for so long now everything is blurring together! I have narrowed the issue I believe to something controlling the interior lights. The black 14 pin connector at the BCM is housing my issue I believe. If the plug is removed the interior lights time out properly and also work as they should while locking and unlocking the vehicle with the remote. I also noticed that the horn sounds off once when the lock button is pressed on the remote while the 14 pin connector at BCM is unplugged, however when the plug is connected it does not sound when locking the doors. I have also noticed the passenger side power mirror will move slightly while locking and unlocking the doors with the remote. I believe this may be an issue with the door module. Problem with lights still exists when passenger door module is unplugged. I have isolated ALL door ajar switches including lift gate. I have scoped the CCD bus and get random activity as much as 30 minutes after everything should have gone to "sleep". At the 14 pin connector with it unplugged I used my vantage ultra to check door switch signals...all read .03v. The white/green wire pin 6 has battery voltage all the time, pin10 VT/YL wire has 1.6mV. The main issue is the interior lights stay on constantly when the 14 pin connector at BCM is plugged in. I really wanna figure this out! I hate when things get the best of me! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as always! Thanks, Jeff

I took a peek at the wiring diagram and it looks like all the door switches are normally open. To test to see if the switches function I would disconnect the connector and grab a test light and put one end to battery positive and touch each door switch pin with the test light. and open and close each door. If I am reading it correctly the test light should not bet lit with the doors closed and light up with them open (someone correct me if I am wrong) You also might be able to see the switch status on scan data, not 100% on that but worth a look.

I disabled all the door switches and verified this with the data pids from the BCM. They all read closed. (actually I believe it was more a yes/no status vs open/closed status) Either way the BCM see's all doors closed. I am concerned with the front door key cylinder anti theft switches. I believe I recall these being an issue in years past. Anybody have a good test for these switches or just replace them? Thanks again, Jeff
