Help us help you. I have a 2000 Chevy blazer that has recently been acting up. I scanned it and got a code for multiple misfire because of my distributor cap. I already knew of this though. My car is a 4.3L v6 with around 198000 miles on it. My issue with it is once it shifts into 3rd gear it acts like its in neutral. My rpms shoot up high and my speedometer either is at 0 or erratically jumping. My abs light is on also but I don't hear my bearing roaring any. My service engine light is on also. When I manually shift it from 1st to 2nd then 2nd to 3rd it's OK but iffy. I strictly drive in 2nd for the time being. I really don't want it to be my transmission so any suggestions? I would like it to be my shift solenoid, ignition module, or my ignition switch. Any advice would be appreciated.
The speedo dropping to 0 mph or jumping around is troublesome.
On a lot of vehicles, without good VSS (vehicle speed sensor) signal, the transmission with not shift correctly.
A poor VSS signal could be caused by a number of things: a faulty sensor, faulty tone ring, bad wiring. Even a bad alternator could interfere with the VSS signal and cause transmission issues.
If the service engine light is on, you can start with a simple code scan to see if there's any codes that may be related to this issue.
Hopefully ECWurban will see this and have some comment. He's a got a LOT more transmission knowledge than I do (we need a Bat Signal for that guy, or a red emergency phone, lol).
