Verus D10 was created by Keithmac
Hello all, I work on Motorcycles for a living (25 years worth so far) and interested in learning how to use oscilloscopes for general fuel injection fault finding.

I'm the bloke that always gets lumbered with the wiring jobs/ diagnostic work.

Looking at a Snapon Verus D10 for the Scope alone, we already have multi-make Texa diagnostics kit.

So I suppose my question is for the money is the Verus D10 a good 4 channel Scope or is there any better?.

With the software, did Snap-on update the Scope part at all or was it just new vehicle support?.

Not looking at new but even 2nd hand are going for £900 UKP.

Thanks for your time, Keith.

First thing: The snap on scope is a very good tool. The scope part has not changed since the early MODIS (precessor of the VERUS) days though...

That said you may find cheaper scope only options with similar and even better characteristics if you are willing to use an oscilloscope combined with a laptop. An AUTEL MP 408 maxiscope comes to mind. It features 4 channel as well which in its basic version goes for under 400 quids. It is autel (shortcoming) answer to the picoscope. Compared to the snap on scope it offers more options once you get familiar with osciloscopes.

I have the snapon ,autel, and picoscope and the snapon (in my opinion) is my last choice , the autel mp408 is a great bang for the buck but had a few software shortcomings for my use. and after getting the pico I don't use anything else. If I was choosing 1 for what you described it would be the autel mp408 (if a laptop is tolerable) my issue with it was lack of customizable math channels and adding custom tool ranges (such as in cylinder pressure transducer) other than that it was quite usable for probably anything you would run into in powersports/motorcycles

Thanks for the replies, some good suggestions there.

I like the D10 really as it's an all in one tool which would make it a bit easier to used, I suppose I could buy the Autel Tablet to go with their scope box.

Our Laptop at work is geared around the Texa Diagnostics ans it's a bit of a pain to use at times so would prefer to say away if possible.

Scope wise to start with I was thinking of crank / cam positon sensor outputs, injector driver outputs etc (had a few bikes where this would have been a godsend to graph those!..

Will have a read up today.

Do you mean your laptop is frequently tied up or the software is difficult to navigate? I much prefer the handheld diagnostic tools to pc based tools (snapon being my favorite) but the use of an oscilloscope in a hand held format is neatly impossible if your looking for an intermittent fault. If you just want to verify the signal is there and looks usable (input or output) you can do that with the snapon anything more than that (like the ability to zoom) pc based 100x over snapon

It's a bit temperamental and I've spent a few weekends sorting it all out at home (along with asking people not to mess about with it!). So ideally it's solely the Diagnostics laptop now so best let sleeping dogs lie at this point!.

It's a bit of a mute point now though as I've got a Verus Pro D10 on the way, too cheep to pass up so get ready for some daft questions in the future..

If I do find out it's not as good as I need then I can't see me losing any money on it and will put that towards an Autel and Tablet.

For me really just being able to prove a sensor or part is broken without doubt is enough for it to earn it's money.

Can see cars are still a few levels up on bikes so hopefully the Verus will have a few years good service in still.

I think you'll be happy with the Verus.
I've owned two Verus platform tools and they've served me well. They have short comings, but they are pretty dependable and user friendly.
If you're not a premium memeber, at least sign up for the two week trial and binge the Verus training series. It'll get you up and scoping in no time.

Thanks, is the Verus Training Series on this site?, will have to have a look!.

I'm looking for a low Amp Clamp, mulling over if the Snap-on one is worth the extra (probably easier to use with the Verus).

You won't find any better training for that tool any where.
