My neighbor bought a new 25 Forester last year and it has less than 5000 miles.
There is nothing wrong with the vehicle, I just wanted to capture some waveforms for my PICO library.
Check out the attached image of the secondary ignition waveform, can someone explain what is happening on the "dwell line"? Referencing the highlighted portion.
That IS an interesting waveform. I can't say that I have ever seen that before. I'm assuming this was captured with the COP wand. Are there any other electrical components nearby that could be interfering with your signal?
Are these blips present in every ignition strike on every coil? I'd like to see the current waveform along with this secondary waveform. If this is, truly, a blip in the dwell time, I would think it would be visible in the current ramp.
I don't think it has anything to do with the blips in the dwell but, I notice that your scope is set to AC Coupling. AC coupling will make the scope trace drift toward zero. COP wands display AC Coupling effects, too, as a characteristic of the tool, which makes it hard to see the true dwell pattern.
Set the scope to DC Coupling. You can, still, see AC signals when DC Coupled. However AC Coupling will make a DC signal drift toward zero.
