I was considering something like this? Easy enough to wire up, small enough to fit in the existing battery compartment:

Should be easy enough to mount an 18650 battery holder in the battery compartment and have room to swap out batteries thru' the existing hole.

Or if you already use AA rechargeables then AA to D adaptors are a cheap option which doesn't require any hackery

I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. How will you charge it? Thats what held me back from putting a phone battery in it over a year ago.

What, we're thinking ahead now? :silly: I thought we were Hulking stuff!

Actually, while I was poking around, I realized that the Astro work light set I use has a built in 18650/26650 cell charger:

That means I could use a single 18650 rechargeable cell in a holder and swap it in and out as needed. Good/terrible idea?
