Just asking but how do you know they're fine?
Check out this link also. Don't know if this applies to your vehicle...

I'd start with a simple visual of the connector and related harness in the under dash area, maybe even a wiggle test in the area while watching scan data. If you can provide the year, I'll see if I can find a diagram for the American counterpart to this car.
Should be a fairly straight forward diagnosis.
there's going to be 2 wires with their own 5v ref source each, at least one ground, MAYBE 2. And 2 signal wires. One will sweep from 5 to 0v, the other from 0 to 5v. as you move the pedal (probably more likely see 4.75v to 0.5v, but you get the idea).
You're a smart guy, with a backprobe, a multimeter, a flashlight and some patience, I bet you can trouble shoot this without a diagram.

Why'd you mention me? It's not like I post wiring diagrams ALL the time! lol
Actually, I found one, but it honestly kinda sucks:
We can't even see where the yellow wire goes! I *think* it's supposed to be a sensor ground, but don't quote me there.

Looks like from left to right:
Ground
Sensor Ground
5v ref
Position signal ( 1 or 2)
Position signal (1 or 2)
Battery +
So not quite what I was thinking to begin with. Hope this helps you.

I actually liked what you were thinking the first time, as that's what I usually expect with an APP sensor. Mazda just had to be different, I guess?
Don't you love this Asian crap?
