So I still haven't decided what scantool to get. Been looking for a good deal on a vantage pro and then get an Autel scantool. This morning my snapon dealer texted me about a modis ultra that he just got. Updated to 16.2 for $2800. What do you guys think of the modis ultra? Looks like it is a solus with a vantage built in. Am I right? Is it worth $2800

I've been leaNing towards the vantage/autel combo since we have the verus edge at work. Sometimes I think "do I need to spend the money since we have the edge at work" but then 1 scantool for 3 techs can be frustrating and I think if I'm going to be a serious diagnostician then I need my own scantool and scope

I run an older Verus like the one Paul does the training series for on the premium channel. For what it's worth, I'm not so much digging the scanner and scope in one tool anymore.

It's a great scanner, and it's a great scope (for me any way), but I find myself more and more reading the component test instructions on the Verus, and hooking up under the hood with my old Vantage.

Maybe they've got it streamlined with the Modis Ultra, but I'm not so sure I want another scanner/scope combo tool when I'm done with this one.
Just my two cents.

I'm not sure what the verus does but in the modis ultra it equips the scope with the correct settings for the test it is explaining so you can read the instructions while your using the scope

I bought my Ultra when it first came out, and it's been amazing. Paid a lot more than these guys did, but still worth it. :cheer:

I'm with Noah, though, as far as buying another scanner/scope combo. In the future, I'll probably be buying separate tools.

The Autel isn't a bad tool, either. It manages to cover the gaps that Snap-on has, and be way more affordable.

When I was choosing a scope/scanner combo back in 2015, I was looking into the MODUS Ultra and the thing I did not like was you can not use the scope and the scanner at the same time. I ended up with a Vantage Ultra and ETHOS Tech.

One thing I have noticed after playing with the MODUS Ultra, ETHOS and a SOLUS Ultra is they all have the same scanner software. You can only graph 4 PIDS at a time on all 3 scanners. It basically comes down to this:

MODUS Ultra: Scanner/Scope (2 channel) with Troubleshooter and component tests
SOLUS Ultra: Scanner with Troubleshooter
ETHOS: Scanner only, smaller screen

If I could do it over I would have gotten an AUTEL and a Vantage Ultra. Of course a PICO would be nice to have as a Scope

That might be a deal breaker right there. If I get the modis ultra then I will likely still want another scan tool so I can use the scanner and scope at the same time if needed. Plus I kinda like using a wireless scantool vs being wired to the car

You can use the scope and scanner at the same time with the Verus, it is probably the same on the Modis Ultra.
You need to open the component test meter.
select any old test of any part. You can re-scale the scope for whatever you're testing .
once you've got that opened up, on the top left of the screen (Verus) theres a tab that says "Meter" with two opposing arrows. This tab should really be included in the 4 channel lab scope, but you can only access it using the component tests.
Clicking that will put the scope window into it's own smaller window you can move around on the screen, then you can click the home tab and open up the scanner. Just like on your pc, the scope tab will be in the task bar, all you have to do it click it to bring it up into view with the scanner.
Hope that helps!

I don't think the modis ultra will do that. I don't think it's windows based or wireless. I will find out next week when he leaves it with me to try out

Yeah, it won't run the scanner and scope at the same time. :( It wasn't a deal breaker to me, and I still feel the Ultra is a great tool. But, there are those cases when being able to run both is really valuable, and that's when I wish I had two separate tools.

Hi I would really recommend the modis ultra,I have just changed up to the verus edge this week after using the modis for 3 years and in my opinion it is still a great tool,it's super fast and reliable. There is also an autel 908 where I work and yes it does fill some of the gaps left by snap on but the modis was still the first go to tool.In my opinion it feels alot more robust than the autel and to be honest the verus, but whatever you choose use it and get to know all about it because there are great features on both and remember enjoy
